
Pierce County has designated this a high priority transportation improvement project. The project is funded and will be constructed in phases. You will need to understand that while the County will do everything that they can to reduce construction impacts to traffic, you can plan on a number of years with interruptions. It will be worth the sacrifice though. Below is the breakdown of the project phases and the progress updates on each. The corridor project is divided up into 3 phases to include:

136th St E to 146th St Court E (phase 1)
Expand to one northbound lane, a two-way left turn lane, and two southbound lanes.
Install cement concrete curb, gutter, and sidewalks
Install an enclosed storm drainage system, and water quality treatment and storage facilities.
Install street lighting.
Install a new traffic signal system at 144th Street East.

146th St Court E to 153rd St E (phase 2)
Adding a two-way left-turn lane and an additional southbound through lane.
Install cement concrete curb, gutter, and sidewalks.
Install an enclosed storm drainage system, and water quality treatment and flow control facilities.
Replace the existing traffic signal system.
Install street lighting.

At the intersection of Sunrise Parkway East/156th Street Court East:
Adding a northbound left-turn lane, turning on to 156th Street Court East.
Adding two southbound left-turn lanes, turning on to Sunrise Parkway East.
